Building Roads:A Personal Guide to Self-Leadership
Finding Your Why
I have been thinking a lot about motivation lately. As Simon says, "do it with why, not with what." Too often we focus on what we're doing instead of why we're doing it. I found myself throwing darts randomly, hoping something would stick—applying to jobs I didn't care about because others told me that's what I should do.
But here's the truth, right?: I do things because I want to do things. Because I feel that I like those things. I do not do things because somebody else tells me to.
When we look deeper into ourselves rather than carrying what others say, we discover our true path. Even if we fail, we achieve something. Every experience teaches us something better.
Building Your Own Road
Life places us at crossroads. Sometimes the path forward isn't clear—or doesn't exist at all.
If there is no road, build a road. You have succeeded in your life, you have failed in your life, so take those experiences and forge a path forward. Why worry?
The beautiful thing about building roads is: Even if you fail, you still succeed. That is the thing with building roads. You may not succeed always, but you will somehow manage to help those who needed that road, to achieve success in their life. Your effort is never wasted.
Becoming the Leader You Need
I realized something important: If you lack a leader in your life, if you lack somebody who could be a role model, then be the role model yourself for others that are looking up.
You should be the leader you strive to have and see in the world. You should embody the change you want to see.
I'm not going to be somebody who just follows orders blindly. I'm going to be somebody who creates, who leads by example, who builds roads so that others can follow the path and know that what they think is not possible, is indeed possible!
Embracing Risk and Growth
Why are we afraid of trying something new? Why do we fear taking steps toward making ourselves better?
We've all faced hardships before. We've all been at low points. But those experiences shape us. If you've come this far, you can go further.
You might never know if an idea will work until you try it. An idea you think is bad might eventually work out. You never know until you do the thing.
It's better to take risks and learn than to play it safe and stagnate. It's better than going to a job and being miserable at it.
Starting with Ourselves
Change begins with individuals taking responsibility. Everything starts with us. It is me who starts it. It is you who starts it. It is us who starts it!
Our generation must show and pave the way to the future. If we don't do it, how and why will our future generation do it?
We should be ready to accept new things, new thoughts, new ideas. We should strive to be inclusive of people and ideas—even challenging ones. We may never know if the thoughts and ideas that challenge us could be the solution to what we seek. We can only know, when we implement them ourselves!
Final Thoughts
Your beliefs, your thoughts, your self—these will lead you and me and us to where we all want to be!
Stop worrying. Just do it.
Take the right steps today and stop having regrets.
Be yourself.
And remember, in life, we need a lot of jack-of-all-trades, not just masters of one.
This guide was compiled from my personal reflections as I navigate my own crossroads. I share these thoughts hoping they might help others build their own roads.
Until next time, have a great day, have a great evening, have a great afternoon and have a great night!
